Hey There

Children's Books

by

Bea D Stevens

lf you know me at all, you'll know that I love writing. At the time of writing this, I have forty-seven books published, some by traditional publishers, and some self-published. You might know me as a Romantic Comedy author, but I also write in different genres under different pen names. But writing children's books for publication is something new to me. Read on to discover the strange way it came about...

I'd always loved writing as a child, and that didn't change as I got older. Although my career took a very different path, I always scribbled away at stories and story ideas when I had a little spare time.

At both school and college, I excelled in English. I took numerous online writing courses, including 'Writing for Children' with Chapter House, and later a similar course with The Writer's Bureau. I'd also studied business at The University of Plymouth.

After having cancer treatment in 2013, I decided it was now or never, and took the plunge into writing for publication. However, publishers wanted to publish what was selling at the time, which was Romance. I enjoyed writing romance stories, and while writing Romantic Comedy in my own name, I also wrote other romantic genres under pen names.

As well as writing, I also enjoy crafting, and was watching a sewing programme early one Sunday morning. The guest brought on some exquisite stuffed creatures she had made, including a cute, characterful little snail. The presenter clearly loved the little soul, and must have read my mind as she said, 'Oh, he's lovely - he should be in a storybook'. Her next words were music to my ears: 'If any author is watching who would like to give Sebastian a story, get in touch.'  I'm sure you can guess the rest.

I was very fortunate to have a lovely friend, Hazel Hicklin, who had previously produced artwork for me, so I hired her as my illustrator. While keeping in touch with Gail Penberthy, the creator of Sebastian, I wrote the story and published the book.

I really hope you enjoy reading it, and that your little one loves hearing it, and looking at the bright pictures. Go, Go, Go, Sebastian Slow was truly a labour of love.
